How do I dress my family?

The trick is to look cohesive but not matching (unless that’s your vibe!)

Choose one or two colours to pair with neutrals across your family palette. Variations of tones and texture are a great way to change it up from there.

The more textures the better! Smooth cotton, knits, cable, waffle patterns, tulle, lace, sequins. Florals or check patterns within the same palette totally count as a texture! Don't be shy with it.

Pair your colour (or colours) with neutrals! Greys, Browns, Creams, Beiges, Taupes, Whites. In my books, Denim is ALWAYS a neutral - so navy can occasionally pass as one too!

Avoid black (it shows up dirt, dust, animal hair and all the fingerprints kiddies leave behind too easily) and often doesn't photograph well. Opt for Navy, Dark blue, Charcoal grey etc instead if you prefer dark colours.

Logos, text, characters, pictures and emblems all date your clothing and can make photos look a little messy. Avoid these if possible.

Pinstripes cause an annoying problem in photos called moire. It's best to avoid it. this doesn't mean avoid all stripes though!
If you feel good - you will look good! It can be great to go out of your comfort zone but you don't want to look like someone else entirely. Wear something you feel great in.

If your shoes don't work with the outfit - go barefoot! Depending on the location of course, but this is a way to have everyone in matchy footwear.

Do you take tips?

I’ve been doing this job a little while and though I’m always happy to take suggestions and have your input I don’t really need any tips. Jokes aside, this is a small one-woman business and a little extra towards kids swimming lessons, a cup of coffee or new school shoes is never necessary but always appreciated.

Can you print my photos for me?

Yes! Yes! Yes! In fact I would prefer it this way. Photos are made to be seen and prints and albums are such a beautiful way to make this happen. I work with a family owned business in Adelaide, South Australia that genuinely make the most gorgeous products that should last generations.

We work together to match colours and have prints looking their very best. The quality is so far unmatched by anything I have seen produced in Australia. Their albums are handmade and they offer something for everyone.

Atkins Pro Lab do their best to be as environmentally sustainable as possible without sacrificing quality. This includes their approach to the timber used in their frames (sourced from certified timber merchants and made from Australian or Italian timber). I’m happy to talk further with you and provide more info about the way Atkins are working to reduce their environmental impact.

You are of course welcome to find your own printer or use your local store that offers photo prints, but I find you do get what you pay for and the extra dollars are often the difference between details you can see and details you can’t.

Do you travel?

Yes I am happy to come to you wherever you are. I do ask that you cover my travel costs if it is outside of the Central Coast area, NSW. Get in touch so we can chat more about it and I can get a quote together for you.

Why do you cost so much?

When you hire me to take your photograph you aren’t just paying for me to click a button. You are paying for years of experience and developed skills to make you feel comfortable while I get all of the settings correct in camera. You are paying for the in depth knowledge of colour, composition and lighting I learnt while studying my bachelor’s degree in fine arts. You are paying for me to take time away from my children. You are paying for camera equipment, batteries, lenses, SD cards and maintenance. You are paying for all the time I have spent scouting locations, building connections with vendors and researching equipment. You are paying for my extensive editing knowledge and expertise. You are paying for my working with children check. You are paying for this website, hosting, subscriptions to editing software. You are paying for your images to have rich colours or punchy black-and-whites, and to be developed in a way that suits my style… and so much more.

The awkward conversation, puns and obscure Shrek references are free.
